The Genie
Cine Pack III has arrived! It comprises the Genie II satellite
speakers for the fronts, centre and rears, along with the Roarr
G22 subwoofer. There couldn''t have been a better time for them
to send these in for review than this. Considering the fact
that this issue is dedicated to home theatres.
These silver finished satellite speaker units possess rock-solid
solidity and are slightly heavier than normal. Though they can
be wall-mounted and placed on a table top, they are also supplied
with sturdy, slim stands with spikes giving wider choice of
placement. To blend more seamlessly with the interiors, they
are available in exciting finishes of ivory, silver streak,
champagne gold and charcoal black. The Roarr G22 subwoofer looks
gorgeous, complementing the looks of the satellites so much
that you wouldn't like tucking the unit away in a corner! This
could probably pass off as a lifestyle product!
FEATURES
The satellite speakers are 2-way sealed cabinets made of die-cast
aluminum. A new silk dome tweeter and mini woofers adorn the
front baffle in the D'Appolito configuration bearing a fourth-order
crossover. Aluminum cabinets help in minimising cabinet resonances
and also have a wider dynamic range.
This designer Roarr G22 is a down-firing subwoofer with aluminum
extruded corners terminating in hardened steel tips in a 'pencil-like'
shape. This further strengthens the MDF cabinet, again minimising
resonances and coloration. The subwoofer has a glass top that
resembles a centre table, but we wouldn't recommend using it
as a table top during a tea party while the music is playing
- the rattling will be so strong that you might just have to
shop for new tea cups!

PERFORMANCE
There are no complexities involved as the set-up is
simple to install. We started off by spinning the CDs and checking
the front channels and the subwoofer collectively for their
music playback capablilities in stereo mode. After careful experimentation
with speaker placements, we got it right. The first impression
that you cultivate is that of the sound being dry. You also
notice the ability to reproduce plenty of ambient detail. There's
plenty of amp power needed here.
on playing instrumental stuff, the Roarr G22 wubwoofer sounds
smooth and swift. The bottom end is weighted, controlled and
has the ability to integrate well with the satellites. It is
interesting to note the general proficieny involved in handling
fast transients. The mid-range presentation is excellent and
there's plenty of focus overall.
CONCLUSION
This is an excellent example of an Indian speaker manufacturer
successfully imparting great finish and aesthetics to the product
using die-cast aluminum. To top it all, the build quality is
rock-solid! It does it's job efficiently on both the music and
movie front sounding full, musical and exciting. This package
may face competition due to the growing choice of brands in
this price range, but out here it defintely comes recommended.
