The Sonus R-ears V2 is sure to appeal to the
hardcore home theatre enthusiast. The R-ear V2 is a dipolar
monitor. Its function as a surround sound monitor is to create
a diffused surround field. The R-ear employs 2 sets of highly
sensitive transducers, where each set is a 2-way design. The 2
sets are electronically set out of phase so that they radiate
opposite signals toward their respective directions, and
create a resultant 'null' effect directly in front. The
listener actually hears the room - reflections from these 2
'out of phase' signals and experiences diffused sound. By not
advertising their presence, the R-ears ensure that the
listener remains immersed in surround sound.
It is
important to note that the R-ear is 'selectively' out of
phase, or dipolar. When fully dipolar, a speaker risks
compromising on critical low frequency information. By
retaining this bandwidth 'in phase,' we have ensured that
bass, a critical essence of multi-channel audio, is not
missing from your R-ear surround
channels.
